Abstract :
We have demonstrated the ability to determine the depth of the gamma-ray interaction point in a thick germanium strip detector. This capability provides depth resolution to less than 0.5 mm in a device with 2 mm strip pitch. We have developed electronics that implement three dimensional readout of an entire 25×25 germanium strip detector. These electronics consume 425 mW/channel and can be easily replicated for multiple detectors. Experiments examining this systems capabilities and demonstrating a simple Compton telescope using one detector have been performed.
