Abstract :
This paper proposes a software solution that provides an interface more akin to traditional artistry. A user will be able draw a simple two-dimensional sketch of a figure or object and convert it into a 3D object without having to rebuild the figure from scratch in a 3D development environment. Because such sketches are crude in nature, the newly created figure can be refined by carving details from it using a haptic device, much as a sculptor does with stone or clay. This paper details the problems in developing such a system, and how their solutions were addressed.
