Abstract :
Practical aspects of sounding using swept time delay cross-correlation are presented. It is shown that this technique is suitable for both pedestrian and vehicular use. The results of a survey with a 50 Mchip/s sounder show that multipath channels with excess delays greater than 400 ns and relative amplitudes greater than -20 dB may be found at transmitter-to-receiver separations less than 25 m. Using the measured results a DECT radio link is simulated and it is shown that the measured channels result in residual bit error rates greater than 0.005
