Abstract :
Wideband systems are now a reality and different operators are seeking systems which can be used in the field not only to characterise the radio channel but also to evaluate and/or predict the performance. Identifying a time dispersion problem necessitates measuring the channel characteristic in the `trouble´ area and then determining the expected system performance under the measured channel condition. The need is for a system which can not only measure the time dispersion (i.e. channel sounder) but also predict the system performance in the field. This paper describes a portable wideband channel sounding system which is easy to use in the field and capable of satisfying the requirements
