Abstract
This paper describes a high bit rate channel sounder that operates at 1.5 GHz with a resolution of approximately 6 ns, suitable for short-distance measurements of the indoor communications channel. A maximal length sequence probe signal is used with the correlation performed off-line using software, allowing a simple low-cost measurement system to be realised. The receiver operates in the homodyne mode so that both the in-phase and quadrature channels can be measured and combined to obtain the envelope delay spread profile of the channel
