Abstract :
A simulator has been developed to test out ideas and scenarios related to detection of powerlines using a radar mounted on a moving helicopter flying above a landscape. The landscape, radar, and powerlines are all parameterized and easily adjustable by the analyst. Various scenarios may be analyzed, with the goal of detecting powerlines in time to avoid a collision under all circumstances. The assumptions and approximations made during the simulator development are detailed, along with a detailed analysis of one scenario. The paper concludes with our ideas for future improvements.
