Abstract
This paper presents two simple closed-form expressions for the BERs of the generalized selection combining scheme, where an arbitrary number m (m≤L) of the strongest (in SNR) diversity branches from a total of L branches are selected and coherently combined, over both non-iid (non-identically but independently distributed) and iid Rayleigh fading channels with binary modulation. The paper also demonstrates that the two expressions can be easily reduced to the BER of conventional selection combining (SC), maximal ratio combining (MRC) and generalized selection combining (GSC), in all cases for both iid and non-iid fading channels.
