Abstract :
The Electrical Engineering Department at the University of California, Los Angeles has been actively engaged in near-field antenna measurement research for the past decade. The focal point for this research program has been the development of the bipolar planar near-field method. This paper explores recent research activity in three areas: development of a phase retrieval algorithm for the bipolar planar near-field method (see Yaccarino, R.G. and Rahmat-Samii, Y., IEEE Trans. Antennas Propagat., vol.47, p.574-83, 1999), comparison of results obtained from conventional and phaseless bipolar near-field measurements, and demonstration of a potential advantage that phaseless measurements have for near-field measurements contaminated with probe position errors (see Yaccarino and Rahmat-Samii, 22nd Annual AMTA Symp. Dig., p.286-91, 2000).
