Abstract

This paper investigates performance implications of distributed control for optical burst switching (OBS) networks. It is analysed the Common Control Channel Optical Burst Switched (C³-OBS) network architecture, which enables resource reservation planning at each node, embodying a shift in OBS networking paradigm, from isolated to distributed control. It is proposed a model for the C³-OBS optical cross connect node and discussed its implementation. A performance assessment of C³-OBS networks is presented, including a performance comparison with conventional OBS networks for several topologies.
