  • Abstract
The presentation describes two situations where millimetre-wave measurements, made in the laboratory might supply information of use in modelling propagation characteristics. The measurements have been taken on a system of three open resonators which can operate individually at 70 GHz, 65 GHz, 34 GHz and 8-12 GHz. This system conveniently allows measurements on the effects of finely divided material-dispersions such as sprays dust and smoke. The total loss cross-section of simulated precipitation particles can be measured so that transmission loss can be predicted. The basic values obtained from the open resonator are derived in terms of recorded values of the changes in resonant frequency and Q-factor when a perturbing element is introduced into the volume of the resonator
