Abstract :
This study aims to evaluate the contribution of optical amplification to the improvement of performance of a long-distance optical communication system. Some results are presented of a study undertaken to guide the design of high-performance optical transmission systems. A presentation of amplified systems is made, along with the results of simulation for comparison of the line amplification with the Er-doped fibre amplifier and the semiconductor optical amplifier
