            Abstract : 
A novel folded capacitive-fed microstrip antenna with length of /spl lambda//3 and placed over a cavity backing is proposed. Compared to the small rectangular patch antenna by Luk (see Electronics Letters, vol.34, no.25, p.2366-67, 1998 ), our proposed antenna has a large impedance bandwidth of 20.1%. The cross-polarization level is /spl sim/-17dB.
