Abstract :
In this paper we illustrate the construction of a stochastic optimal control law that maximizes the expected time for a nonlinear discrete-time system to violate specified constraints. After reviewing the theory, two examples, of a stochastic adaptive cruise control and of hybrid electric vehicle energy management, are considered. Approaches to reconfiguring the control law on-board of the vehicle if statistics of the disturbance change are discussed.
