Abstract
In this paper we present an analytical model for deriving the other-cell interference distribution in the multi-cell UMTS with recent evolvement, high speed uplink packet access, enabled. Fixed-point equations are employed for iteratively computing the distribution, and log-normal approximations are suggested to increase the efficiency of algorithms significantly. The accuracy of the approximation is further enhanced with certain techniques. The accuracy of analytical model is then verified through the comparisons with simulation results, where good matches are achieved implying the possibility of application in practical network planning.
