Abstract :
This paper deals with some experiences with the application of historic phonetic devices in the education in engineering. The exhibits are part of the historic acoustic-phonetic collection (HAPS) of the Dresden University. This collection demonstrates the development of experimental phonetics and speech technology in Germany from the beginning at the end of the 19th century until the introduction of the computer in speech processing. Selected application examples are demonstrated for sound production, sound recording, sound analysis, and sound synthesis.
