  • Abstract
The US Army fields several computer platforms running different applications. The value of the information spread across these various applications would be greatly increased if it could be integrated. The CORBA standard provides a solution to many of the problems in achieving interoperability across platforms and applications in a TCP/IP based client-server network. However in contrast with a typical client-server network, relatively low capacity communication channels characterize the Army´s wireless network, the “tactical internet”, and many commercial wireless networks. This paper examines ways to leverage CORBA methods to achieve interoperability on the tactical internet addressing the need for greater efficiency in using communications channels. This discussion draws on techniques created for adapting the Rutgers University DISCIPLE Project, a real-time CORBA based groupware environment for use over the tactical internet
