Abstract
Characteristics of the annual average, monthly average, and daily discharges of the Hailiutu River were investigated in this study. Change point detection reveals annual flow regime changes 4 times during the period from 1957 to 2007. Harmonic analysis identifies dominant annual and semi-annual periodic fluctuations of monthly average flow, but the magnitude of fluctuation and occurrence of peak flow are changed in consistency with the annual flow regime changes. The analysis of daily flow in different periods also illustrates that the high flows and low flows had been affected during the past 51 years. All these changes can be attributed to land use change and water resources development in the catchment.
