Abstract :
The authors present a concept for designing phased array elements. By measuring the S-parameters of the antenna array with modern measurement equipment (e.g., HP 8510 network analyzer) and applying Kirchhoff´s circuit relationships, one can compute the active scanning input impedance quite accurately. On the basis of the concepts presented, computer-aided design (CAD) programs were developed and successfully used to design the printed crossed-slot elements for mobile satellite communications and the broadband reduced-size log-periodic monopole array for airborne wing conformal phased-array applications.<>
