Abstract
This paper presents an adaptive distance relaying based on linear sensitivity factors. After clearance of fault, some transmission lines may be overloaded, which may cause cascading trips even total blackout. Adaptive algorithm is proposed to discriminate overload and fault, and block zone 3 trip caused by overload. Simulation of 6-bus test system indicates that the proposed backup relay algorithm works well.
