Abstract :
This paper describes the transmission line fault location principle based on the gap between zero mode and aerial mode traveling wave propagation time in distribution network, proved the practicability by the simulation and field tests. For the distribution network with multi-branch, it presents improvements on the sampling frequency, the wave wavelet algorithm and the zero-mode wave speed, and analyses factors affecting range accuracy, such as the number of branches, the fault resistance, and the initial phase angle of the bus voltage at fault time. It presents problems to be resolved for the practicability of the transmission line fault location based on the gap of traveling wave propagation time.
