  • Abstract
    ATM was designed to handle voice, video and data applications simultaneously. When the user and/or source of information is using a hand held radio terminal, a solution is required to interface ATM and the wireless land mobile (WLM) networks. A number of mobile radio standards have been developed for wireless cellular systems throughout the world and more are likely to emerge. Consequently, an interface is required between ATM and each specific WLM protocol. Two protocols were analyzed in this study, the Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) and MIL-STD-188-220A. The results demonstrated that although it is technically possible to integrate these networks, it is not feasible since the WLM networks cannot provide the services for which ATM was designed
