  • Abstract
In this article, a dual-band monopole antenna fed by a 50 Ω microstrip transmission line is proposed for Wireless Local Area Network applications in IEEE 802.11 a/b/g. The proposed microstrip-fed monopole antenna consists of a rectangular patch with four notches at the four corners of the rectangular patch and a small rectangular patch slot. For the microstrip-fed antenna, two resonant bands are seen. The first band is about 7% for the center frequency of 2.41 GHz and the second band extends from 4.876 to 6.2 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 24%. The simulated peak gains over these bands are 3.28 and 6.87 dBi, respectively. The overall size of the proposed antenna is 29.3 × 13.6 × 0.8 mm3. Details of the simulation results are presented and discussed.
