Abstract
A novel gemini-structural quaternary ammonium salt, 4,4´-(1,5-pentamethylene dihydroxy)-bis(1-dodecyl pyridinium iodide)[PA-12], used as bactericidal treatment of oil-field injection water. Bactericidal characteristics of PA-12 were investigated comparable with benzalkonium chloride [BAC] against sulfate reducing bacteria, iron bacteria and putrefying bacteria. The results indicated that bactericidal activities (MICs) of PA-12 are higher one order of magnitude than one of BAC, and keep stability over the range of the environmental factories of temperature and pH.
