Abstract
In order to reduce the computational complexity of the inter frame mode decision in H.264, a Bayesian decision based fast mode decision algorithm is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm uses the Bayesian decision theory to categorize the prediction modes of H.264 and shrink the candidate number of prediction modes to be searched. The motion status of the MB is chosen as the feature of classification. To further speedup the mode decision procedure, the Bayesian decision algorithm is implemented by a two step table looking. Experimental results have shown that this proposed algorithm can effectively decrease the computation load of mode decision with negligible video quality loss and bit rate increase.
