Preference of teaching versus engineering careers among technological education graduates (teacher engineer)

Abstract :
The results of a survey analyzing and classifying the jobs of CTEH (Center for Technological Education Holon) graduates are presented. It was found that out of the 171 graduates who were involved in the survey, 22% were classified as `educators,´ 6% as `educators in industry,´ and the rest, 72%, had various engineering and technological occupations. The distribution according to sex for those employed as `educators´ is 17.2% for males and 33.4% for females. It was also found that graduates in teaching jobs expressed more satisfaction in their work than those engaged in other work. The main reasons for abandoning teaching jobs were: low salaries, low expectation for advancement, dullness, and dissatisfaction combined with discipline problems
