Abstract
In this paper we present an analysis of a conformal, cavity-backed, co-ax fed microstrip patch antenna, using a combination of the method of moments (MoM) and the finite element method (FEM). A domain decomposition approach is employed to partition the problem into two, each of which is analyzed by using the technique that is best suited for the individual domain. Specifically, the cavity region, which contains a combination of inhomogeneous dielectrics and PEC objects, is treated with the FEM, whereas the MoM is applied to the outer surface, which is assumed to be a perfect conductor.
