Abstract
Thin-layer, rechargeable lithium batteries are considered among the most promising advanced systems for electric vehicle or consumer electronics applications. The study of the characteristics of the electrode interface, with particular concern for the negative lithium/polymer electrolyte side, is considered. Since clarification of the interfacial phenomena is crucial in assessing the effective practical impact of the polymer batteries, the authors have undertaken a detailed investigation of the Li passivation processes in most relevant electrolyte media. They report results obtained for the lithium electrode in contact with three different systems, namely a classical polymer electrolyte a composite polymer electrolyte, and a gel electrolyte
