Abstract
In modern wireless relay-assisted networks, e.g., LTE, most of the relays are layer one relays, which are only capable of repeating but not processing the received data. In the scenario of placing a smart relay in the network, one can remodel the topology as an instantaneous relay network which is shown to achieve a higher degrees of freedom than the classical cut-set bound. Utilizing interference neutralization scheme - a well applicable technique of canceling interference signals algebraically in the air by choosing relay strategies - we demonstrate a significant improvement in terms of achievable utility region.
