Abstract :
The paper shows some experimental results on induced voltages and currents on telecommunications cables and compares them with a computer simulation method. The experiment was performed at the lightning triggering site of Cachoeira Paulista (Brazil). At this location, a network of two telecommunications cables was setup. In the network, several configurations, including the effects of the strand wire and shielding, were tested. The simulation was carried out using a quasi-TEM, frequency-domain, multiconductor transmission line theory that includes arbitrary linear networks illuminated by plane-wave or located generators. A comparison between the two methods was made for three different cases and a good agreement was obtained between measurements and simulation.
