Abstract :
An alternative approach for medical data acquisition, analysis and processing using local area network (LAN) principles is presented and discussed. A typical LAN configuration, phases of network evolution, facilities and routing efficiency, and scope of applications are examined. It is concluded that LAN interconnection and the use of routers greatly enhances the scope of database development, data analysis, and training. In addition, the functions of a mainframe can be developed by the internetworking of several LANs
