Abstract :
A wide-area robust damping control method for damping multiple inter-area oscillations of power system is suggested in this paper. Both local signals and remote signals are utilized as inputs for each wide-area robust controller (WRC). Hinfin output-feedback with pole placement design procedure based on the mixed-sensitivity formulation is carried out. The feedback gain matrix is obtained through solving a family of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). For an 8-generator 36-bus test system, after controller positioning and signal selection by virtue of participative phasor and residue, two WRCs are designed sequentially aiming to specific oscillation modes. The computer simulations for variation of system operation demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the designed controllers.
