  • Abstract
This paper presents a novel and efficient procedure for accomplishing the load flow calculations in an electrical radial distribution system. The proposed approach utilizes the forward sweep algorithm for the iterative evaluation of node parameters which is based on the Kirchhoff´s current law [KCL] and Kirchhoff´s voltage law [KVL]. The methodology has been made suitable for larger distribution systems by fully exploiting the radiality nature and by formulating a unique numbering scheme and a power injection analysis for all nodes and branches in a system. The proposed mathematical approach employs only simple algebraic expressions devoid of any complex parameters. Hence the proposed method is computationally efficient irrespective of system characteristics. The method has been programmed in MATLAB R2009b version and has been tested on three different standard and IEEE test systems.
