Abstract
In this paper, Voltage Source Inverters (VSI) are considered to drive a single-phase electric machine as a motor for propulsion of Light Electric Vehicles (LEV). The proposed gain space tuning method in this study uses the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) concept in which the desired sets of the Q matrix of the LQR are obtained based on the dominant closed-loop poles concept and in a reverse mathematical procedure for the LQR concept as well as mathematical relationships for both types of Proportional-Resonant (PR) and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers. Finally, according to a desired fitness function, an optimum set of the Q matrix elements is obtained via a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) search algorithm in order to assure excellent tuning of both controllers coefficients in order to obtain desired performance objectives for appropriate operation of the overall drive system. The proposed idea is supported by simulation and CHIL (controller hardware in the loop) results for an LEV drive system.
