Abstract :
This paper studies the dynamic characteristics of electromechanical wave propagation in the continuum model for power systems based on the linearized wave equations, presents the steady state equivalent models, the boundary conditions at the joints of transmission lines, and the analytical expressions of reflection and transmission for the incremental power and angular velocity. Additionally, according to Peterson´s rule, the analytical solutions to the transient reflection and transmission of electromechanical wave propagation in the elastic transmission line (ETL) are obtained. This paper proves that electromechanical dynamics in the realistic power systems can be depicted as the superposition of multiple reflection and transmission of traveling wave initiated by a disturbance at both terminals of ETLs in the continuum model. It is a novel viewpoint completely to study the essence of electromechanical dynamics in the view of wave propagation. Finally, the simulations validate all of these viewpoints presented in this paper.
