Abstract :
A fair bandwidth balancing technique for the DQ protocol is proposed. The fairness on bandwidth sharing among nodes with multiple priority classes is defined in terms of bandwidth allocated to each node. A fully distributed adaptive bandwidth waste rate (ABWR) technique, which assures almost fair bandwidth sharing by the above definition, is proposed. The ABWR technique adjusts the bandwidth waste rate for priority level j at each node, depending on network-wide bandwidth demand by traffic with priority higher than j . In this DQ protocol with ABWR, only a small portion of network bandwidth is wasted in accomplishing fair bandwidth sharing among all active nodes with multiple priority classes. A lower bound of maximum network utilization in the DQ protocol with ABWR is given by numerical analysis. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated by simulation
