Abstract :
Faults related to metal particles and corona partial discharge (PD) often appear in HV apparatus in service. This leads the dielectric to aging or to breakdown. In this paper, measurements are made using UHF detection, conventional PD measurement and power phase analysis. The metal particles and corona discharge characteristic of a model GIS are researched. A new method for estimating the degree of the corona discharge is put forward. Then the discharge level of the UHF signal is estimated based on comparing UHF detection and conventional PD measurements.
