Abstract
A hemispherical switched antenna array operating at 1.5 GHz is described. Nine dual-linearly polarized radiator elements are distributed over the surface of a hemisphere. A switching network can address serially all radiators, separately as well as by connecting in-phase to two neighboring radiators. This way, 15 switched beams are realized. The radiator element chosen is a crossed-dipole structure featuring about 7.5 dBi gain and an impedance bandwidth of 13%. The antenna has a diameter of about 1.75 wavelengths. Measurements of directivity distribution and polarization distribution are presented.
