Abstract
We can increase our diagnostic ability for obstructed sleep apnea by creating an artificial airway model then measure its frequency responses. This research involved the creation of a silicone head model with anatomically correct nasopharynx, oropharynx, and trachea. Measurements were taken without any obstruction and that served as the baseline in our testing. We also modeled an obstructed airway by significantly decreasing the airflow through the trachea. The head model was connected to a respiratory pump simulating inhalation and exhalation of a human.
