Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to describe a methodology that can be used in evaluating a transit system, placing the majority emphasis upon the station configuration and establishing maneuver zones for vehicular interaction. The station areas are described from the interrelation with the guideway and operational policies. In order to determine the quantity of vehicles in a given section at a specified time, the operational procedures are also examined. The station zone impact and the operational policies are interwoven together in the reliability assessment paragraph showing the method of computing the reliability in terms of blockages for each sector and the overall system. Also included is a very brief explanation of the remaining elements from a failure rate per mile viewpoint. Integration of the failure rates of the total system is necessary in order to predict the total expected blockages during an operational day. This method can be modified to include other station designs and operating policies. The overall intent was to stimulate reliability impact on station design consciousness in future reliability predictions.
