Abstract :
This work discusses the directional properties of the radiation of radio base antennas in cellular systems considering losses evaluated by Ikegami-Walfisch model in addiction to the usually employed variable of the distance from the bottom of the radio base tower. It is demonstrated that the electric field intensity peaks at different distances from the bottom of the radio base tower depending on various other variables, leading to the conclusion that only fixing a minimum distance from populated areas for the installation of radio bases is not the proper way to ensure safety. It is important to denote that only commercial antennas are used in this work.
