Abstract
A novel dual frequency patch antenna in a single layer substrate is investigated. The antenna structure developed combines the advantages of a CPW (coplanar waveguide) with the advantages of an aperture-coupled microstrip antenna, and simplifies the structure of the antenna by reducing the number of metallization levels from 3 to 2, thereby making the integration of active devices easier. One of the most promising aspects of the new antenna is the capability of matching the input impedance at two frequencies with a single feed point. It is worth noting that the use of two separated frequencies allows the bandwidth requirements for each frequency to be relaxed. Such an antenna provides dual bands with different polarizations.
