Abstract :
Two modified scheduled retransmission multiple access (SRMA) protocols for satellite communication networks are considered. The authors use a time-diversity concept in these proposed protocols in which each station transmits multiple copies of the same packet as well as multiple copies of reservation information for retransmission. The multiple copies are transmitted in the same channel but in different time slots. It is shown that the proposed protocols can offer a maximum throughput that is much better than that of the ALOHA system and the delay performance is also better, even when the throughput is as low as 0.1
