Abstract
Diversity is an important technique to overcome the harmful effects of multipath fading on performance of wireless communication systems. Due to good results obtained under fading conditions, the wavelet coding has been recognized as a promising time diversity technique for enhancing channel reliability. However, this technique generates not-equiprobable symbols, and consequently the performance gains from these systems are influenced significantly by their modulation schemes. In this paper, we presented a design criterion to construct a sub-optimal 4D constellations, which are used in space diversity scheme to increase the performance benefits of the wavelet coding, keeping the system complexity relatively low. The numerical results so obtained indicates that the use of this technique may lead to new alternatives for exploiting the potential of wavelet coding for digital communications over wireless channels.
