Abstract
This paper describes the design, characterization and initial tests of a new type of thrust vector measurement system (TVMS) operating in the millinewton range. Present thrust measurement systems resolve thrust of this magnitude but do not characterize the vector. This system is developed for evaluation of the micropropulsion system Micropyros (B. Larangot et al, J. Propulsion and Power, 2002). The micropyros are solid combustion microrocket engines, arranged in a 10×10 array where each engine creates a 1-2 mN force for less than a second.
