Abstract :
Data-compression methods can be divided into two main categories, reversible and irreversible. A brief summary of the techniques in both categories is given. In addition, irreversible methods for conversion from raster representation to polygon-based representation are described. One technique is based on global processing and representation, while the other is based on local methods. Examples of pictures processed with both methods are shown, and the similarities and differences are discussed
