Abstract
This paper describes the performance of the RAM battery when charged using solar energy. A flyback DC-DC regulator is employed to convert the solar power to voltage suitable for charging the RAM battery in cellular phone application. Two tests, namely discharge-recharge and heat-effect are carried out. It was found that the battery can be suitably used for analogue cellular phones. However the battery is not suitable for digital cellular phone because the current discharge rate is not sufficient. From the heating effect test, the battery was proven reliable in high temperature operation.
