Abstract
Historically, workforce management and field services meant dispatchers and field technicians working with trucks, phones and paper. Today there are opportunities to exploit advancements in mobile technologies that distribute data to the field for greater efficiency and customer responsiveness. The business drivers that are forcing the technology issues are reduced drive time, automated dispatch, optimized scheduling and improved availability of information. This paper analyzes the technology revolution in geo-spatial applications and mobile computing platforms.
