  • Abstract
The developing process and the lightning characteristics of a squall line in Guangdong region were analyzed by means of a lightning location system (LLS) and Radar. Results showed lightning occurred mainly in developing stage of squall line with obvious concentrated area and its frequency was bimodal distribution. There were good correlations between lightning activity strength with squall processes of occurrence, development, mature and dissipation. Similarly, both positive and negative lightning flashes had obvious bimodal distributions, with the rate of change in the former flash lower than in the latter one. Overall, the lightning current amplitude was mainly between 4 kA~16 kA, accounted for 65.95% of the total number of lightning in this process.
