Abstract :
We construct a simple analytic model to compute frame error rates for the CDMA forward channel. We find that (pseudo-) random puncturing of the coded bits on the forward channel to provide power control feedback for the reverse channel results in a frame error rate floor even on an AWGN channel. The FER floor around 10-9 is of little consequence in IS-95. The FER floor is around 5×10-6 for the proposed extension of the IS-95 standard to accommodate a 13 kbps vocoder. The latter FER floor is verified through simulations
