Abstract :
This article highlights some of the potential pitfalls that may be encountered when attempting to commercialize university-developed software technologies. The authors use a case study of a recent project that successfully transferred a university developed software product to a local firm. (The success of the product in the marketplace is not yet known). Several obstacles were encountered during the commercialization, any one of which could have completely halted the process. Their purpose for this article and presentation is to alert others to these potential problems and show how they were able to overcome them. The lessons learned should-help any company or university attempting to transfer technology
